After listening to the complete hymn, that last line - as hymns have a tendency to do - caused me to fight back a tear from my eye. The lyrics seem to walk us backwards, starting at the end and bringing us back to the present. We are reminded of what our future holds, that we owe it all to Christ, and how on earth we can only see in part His full glory. Finally, we are reminded of what our duty in the here and now is as well our motivation for it.

"Teach me Lord on earth to show
By my love how much I owe."
