This hymn goes out specially to Cathy. Thanks for introducing me to this marvelous hymn.
Lyrics and Music: C. Austin Miles
Twas Love that gave at greatest cost
A Life, that mine should not be lost
The Love that died in deep despair
My debt fully satisfied there
Refrain:
It was love that took my place
On the cross of Calvary
It was grace, redeeming grace
That paid my ransom full and free
Over sin, without, within,
I have the victory
Thro’ grace, marvellous grace
That lives in me
The Love that freely all forgives
In fullness now within me lives
Thro’ every trial this I see
His grace is sufficient for me
God’s love His mercy and His grace
Combine to raise a fallen race
His hand is ready, ere we call
Held out with forgiveness for all

Does anyone know how I can get the sheet music or chord chart to this hymn?
Thanks!
The music (without chords) can be found in the Cokesbury Worship Hymnal page 153. The Hymnal is hopefully still available from Abington Press ISBN 0-687-08865-8 for paperback version. In this Hymnal are other C. Austin Miles hymns one of which is “In The Garden”. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the page number in the Cokesbury. I had looked all through the United Methodist Hymnal, but was unable to find the song. It has been on my mind all day (Sunday, April 3, 2011) There was a part in our Sunday School Lesson that made me think about it. I have been singing it all day. Now up I am up at 1 AM, unable to sleep. Maybe now I can get some rest. Thanks very much. ( It just so happens that I have both the song books at my home)
I ordered a used Cokesbury Hymnal from Amazon. I love it! I was not familiar with this song, and finding it is like finding buried treasure!
Thank you for these pocasts. I pastor a traditional United Methodist Congregation, and many of the “good old songs” are unfamiliar to me. Now I can sing them with confidence as if I grew up with them.
Thanks again!
