Lyrics: Jeremiah E Rankin
Music: William G Tomer
The hymn is written as a Christian good-bye, it was called forth by no person or occasion, but was deliberately composed as a Christian hymn on the basis of the etymology of “good-bye,” which is “God be with you.” The author Jeremiah Rankin recounts: “It was sung for the first time one evening in the First Congregational Church in Washington, of which I was then the pastor and Mr. Bischoff the organist.”
This hymn is specially for Daniel Sim who will be leaving for a student exchange program for six months at Holland. God Be With Thee. Amen.
God be with you till we meet again;
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep securely fold you;
God be with you till we we meet again.
Refrain:
Till we meet, till we meet,
Till we meet at Jesus’ feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we we meet again.
God be with you till we meet again;
‘Neath His wings protecting hide you,
Daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we we meet again.
God be with you till we meet again;
When life’s perils thick confound you,
Put His arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we we meet again.
God be with you till we meet again;
Keep love’s banner floating o’er you,
Smite death’s threat’ning wave before you;
God be with you till we we meet again.

Very nice! I especially like the instrument’s sound. Sometimes that fakey Hammond on Oremus can get to you!
Thanks so much for sharing this!
God Bless You!!! I am in tears! Thank you for this precious gift. I hope to play the piano for the “farewell” of our beloved shepherd Rev. Daniel McGrath and his family as they move on to serve our country in the Navy Chaplain Program. I say “they” because I firmly believe that enlistees’ families also serve. We should remember to thank them, too.
